The Carmel Library has been a mainstay in Carmel-by-the-Sea for most of its existence. There are two branches, one for kids and one for the rest of us. But there is also a veritable treasure trove of special things in the Park Branch Libary… the History Room.
Main Library
The Main Branch houses the books, computers, meeting room and what is basically a large living room complete with a fireplace. It also houses a valuable art collection, has computers with internet and a new meeting room that is available to the public.
There is a small book shrine outside near the magazine rack.

Park Branch Library
This is stuff about the Park Branch Library which is mostly for  books for kids. You’ll also find the Carmel Cares Library Shrine “Take a Book, Leave a Book” outside.

Local History Room
This is our favorite part of the library. This is where you can see lots of cool things from Carmel-by-the-Sea’s past. Original copies of plays by Herbert Heron and other famous Carmel arts people. Original plot maps. And, the best part is that there are real people who are really nice and really knowledgeable who will help you find what you are interested in. If not right away, at some point in the near future. This branch used to be a bank and the really cool stuff is stored inside the safe! Yes, some of it is that valuable.
